Big Game Hunting in Wyoming
Wyoming is a big game hunter's paradise. The
climate and habitat assure a plentiful and quality wildlife resource.
The Bighorn Mountains are an excellent destination for sportspersons
in pursuit of Rocky Mountain Elk. Elk are plentiful in this area
and the trophy quality is among the best in the world. Six-by-six
bulls are common, and record quality bulls are taken every fall.
This area is known for a high harvest rate of quality bulls.
Northeast Wyoming has long been the preferred
destination of mule deer hunters, and mule deer in Northeast Wyoming
are thriving. Mule deer densities are quite high in this area, and
the quality of bucks keeps getting better. Mule deer are found from
the plains to the mountains above timberline.
No place in the world has more pronghorn antelope
than Wyoming, and Northeast Wyoming has more than its share of Wyoming's
antelope. Antelope cover the plains and breaks, and are even expanding
into high mountain pastures. Pronghorn antelope are the most unique
species of big game animal on this continent, and provide a rewarding
hunting experience.
Whitetail deer are relatively new arrivals to
some parts of Northeast Wyoming, and they are prospering. The creek
bottom and brush habitat combined with local farming support great
numbers of whitetail deer. There are very few places in the country
that can rival Northeast Wyoming's potential for daily sightings
of whitetail deer.
With plentiful game and liberal hunting
seasons, Wyoming boasts a high harvest rate on big game animals.
Wyoming traditionally ranks among the top states for percentage
of harvest and trophy quality of harvested game.
