Eaton's Ranch
Wolf, Wyoming
Known as the oldest dude ranch in the world,
it consists of 7,000 acres of some of the most beautiful country
in Wyoming. When the Eaton brothers, Howard, Willis and Alden, moved
out West from Pennsylvania in 1879 to be ranchers they had no idea
that hosting friends from back East could be more lucrative than
the cattle business.
The Eaton's started out in Medora, North Dakota
raising cattle and horses. It wasn't long after they came to this
part of the country that their old friends from the East coast started
coming out to visit just to see what cowboy life was really like.
One of these guests enjoyed the visits so much that he offered to
pay for the privilege and the dude ranch was born.
In 1904, the Eaton's moved their outfit to Wolf
Creek, near Sheridan, Wyoming. The new location offered more varied
riding terrain as well as beautiful mountain scenery.
Almost 100 years later this ranch is still being
operated by the third, fourth, and fifth generation of Eatons and
is still visited by fourth and fifth generation guests. It offers
51 individual cabins with all the amenities and can accommodate
up to 125 guests.
Available activities include riding, pack trips,
swimming, fishing, or just relaxing. If golf is your thing, the
ranch abuts a neighboring ranch's Pete Dye designed nine-hole course.
Or you might want to wander down to Gentry Field (the ranch rodeo
grounds) and watch the cowboys practice their roping skills. For
vacations in Wyoming, Eaton's Ranch has it all.
