Kendrick Mansion
Sheridan, Wyoming
The
Kendrick Mansion, also known as Trail's End, is one of the most
beautiful historical sites that Sheridan, Wyoming has to offer.
The 13,748 square foot mansion was built between 1908 and 1913 at
a cost of over $165,000.00. It was the home of John
B. Kendrick, one of Wyoming's most successful politicians.
The home was designed by Montana architect Glenn Charles McAlister.
New York designer D. Everett Waid undertook completion of the interior.
Trail's End's stylistic influences are rather eclectic, with American
Gothic, late Victorian, Edwardian and Prairie styles throughout
the interior and Flemish Revival with Neoclassical details on the
exterior.
While
waiting for the main house to be completed, the Carriage House was
built and served as an apartment for the Kendrick's. It later housed
their riding horses and automobiles. In 1979, the 3,013 square foot
building was converted into an eighty-eight seat community theater
where you can still enjoy the local talent in the summer time.
Trail
End's 3.8 acres of groomed grounds and gardens were designed by
the Minneapolis firm of Morell & Nichols and are considered
to be the first professionally landscaped grounds in the entire
state of Wyoming. Features include several hundred trees and shrubs
indigenous to Wyoming as well as an unusual collection of non-native
species.
