Snowmobiling
in the
Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming
Wyoming boasts one of the most extensive system
of snowmobile trails in the country. More than 2,000 miles of pristine,
dry powder await snowmobile enthusiasts in the Cowboy State. Experienced
riders as well as many publications name this area one of the top
ten snowmobiling destination in America.
The Big Horn Mountains provide some of the most
amazing winter scenery in the country, with a majority of views
hidden from the major roads that cut through the forest. Snowmobile
trails, ranging from the well traveled to the remote, crisscross
300 miles through the Big Horn National Forest. The Forest Service
has marked many of these trails and they can be accessed from the
main road.
Spectacular views of Cloud Peak, Bomber Peak,
Island Park, Meadowlark Lake and Boulder Park are just some of the
reasons to climb aboard a snowmachine and roar off on an adventure.
Moose, elk and deer are just some of the Wyoming fauna you might
see. Camping is permitted, but will be very cold. Those wishing
to warm up their bones after a long day of snowmobiling can rent
rooms at Meadowlark Resort or Deer Haven Lodge. Winter vacationers
wishing to snowmobile should pack plenty of warm clothes and be
prepared with some emergency supplies.
Snowmobile rentals are available at Deer Haven
Lodge and Meadowlark Lake Resort, both located on Highway 16, the
Cloud Peak Skyway or call 1-888-BIGHORN.
